This is one of the most disgusting cases of materialism I'll ever hear about:
From the Boston Herald:
"A temporary Wal-Mart worker died after a throng of eager shoppers broke down the doors and trampled him moments after the Long Island store opened early Friday...
Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue the man, and customers stepped over him and became irate when officials said the store was closing because of the death, police and witnesses said.
At least four other people, including a woman who was eight months pregnant, were taken to hospitals for observation or minor injuries. The store in Valley Stream on Long Island closed for several hours before reopening."
We're not talking about starving people racing for the last bit of food on the shelf. These are not people outrunning a mob with guns or trying to escape a burning building. These are (unfortunately) "average" Americans trampling each other and dismissing the loss of a human life so that they can get their hands on a bunch of discounted appliances and electronics.
Thank you, greedy bastards, for further tainting the holidays with gluttony and death. I hope your new flatscreen tv shorts out on its first day. And thanks to Walmart for setting up the scenario.
