H is for What the Hell?
I have a silly little home video of my dog Acorn set to Nico's "These Days" on Youtube. It's not even the whole song, non-profit and for fun. Yes, I know the song doesn't belong to me, but I really thought it might go without notice, ya know.
BUT I received this note from Youtube today:
UMG (United Music Group) has Your video is still live because UMG has authorized the use of this content on YouTube. As long as UMG has a claim on your video, they will receive public statistics about your video, such as number of views. Viewers may also see advertising on your video's page.
I went to check my link, and UMG has indeed already inserted advertising there. Great, an ad for girls wearing the stupid little spandex dresses that I hate so much. I hope this does wonders for the world of music that UMG represents...?
